Dr Jack Ao is an ophthalmologist with subspecialty interests in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. He completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide, followed by a Master of Philosophy in Ophthalmology, and undertook accredited ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital.
Dr Ao subsequently completed advanced fellowship training in Cornea, Ocular Surface and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious St Paul’s Eye Unit, Royal Liverpool University Hospital (UK). During this time, he received extensive training in corneal transplantation techniques (DMEK, DSAEK, PK, and DALK), as well as modern laser refractive and cataract surgery.
He is known for his thoughtful and meticulous approach to patient care, taking time to understand each patient’s concerns and tailoring treatment to their individual needs. Dr Ao’s goal is to provide clear advice, evidence-based care, and a reassuring experience at every stage of the patient journey.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Ao maintains a strong commitment to research and academic medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at major national and international conferences including RANZCO and ARVO, reflecting his ongoing contribution to advancing ophthalmic care.
His work has been recognised through several academic awards and scholarships, including the RANZCO Trevalyn-Smith Travelling Scholarship, AVANT Research Grant, the John Parr Trophy for Best Paper Prize at the RANZCO National Congress, and the Dean’s Commendation for Research Excellence from the University of Adelaide.
Dr Ao is also passionate about teaching and mentoring. He holds appointments as a Clinical Associate Lecturer with both the University of Sydney and the University of Adelaide, where he contributes to the education of medical students, junior doctors, and ophthalmology trainees.
