New technology: CONTOURA™ Vision - Personalise Your Eyes
personalEYES | 6 Jun 2019
Vision specialists PersonalEYES has acquired a ground-breaking technology to enhance laser corrective surgery and deliver an even more customised treatment for its patients.
A revolutionary development in eye treatment, Contoura™ Vision topography-guided laser vision correction is the latest advancement in Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) technology and refractive procedures.
LASIK is the most popular form of laser vision correction and allows eye surgeons to alter the way light is refracted onto the retina by reshaping the eye’s cornea. By undergoing this treatment, patients are able to focus more clearly on distances, either near or far, without the help of corrective eyewear such as glasses or contact lenses.
With improvements in safety and vision, Contoura™ Vision Laser correction technology offers patients the highest level of personalisation in refractive procedures yet and PersonalEYES is proud to be among the first to bring this game-changing technology to Australia.
What’s so good about Contoura™ Vision?
Contoura™ Vision topography-guided LASIK is the latest advancement in refractive technology, has redefined the concept of “quality of vision” and is an extremely individualised treatment option. It enables eye surgeons to conduct a more personalised treatment for patients with refractive errors and corneal irregularities.
With Contoura™, eye surgeons can significantly reduce the effects of refractive errors including myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness) and astigmatism for patients. By using topography-guided custom treatments to examine the unique corneal topography of each eye, Contoura™ provides the most individualised treatment option available for refractive surgery patients.
Not only is it proven to eliminate and reduce the need for corrective eyewear, but its topography-guided procedures have also improved many common symptoms that are associated with LASIK. In clinical trials, Contoura™ set new standards in LASIK developments by reducing night glare and sensitivity to light.
How does it work?
Contoura™ works to optimise the surface of the eye’s cornea, which enhances the patient’s quality of vision like never before.
Contoura™ gives eye surgeons the ability to identify and record deficiencies in the cornea, and works to enhance the eyes’ focusing surface. It begins with the patient’s eye being imaged and analysed through the use of unique corneal elevation points of each individual eye. This data is then used to create an individualised profile of each cornea. Then, WaveLight technology is implemented to adjust the laser pulse placement in order to match the topography-guided treatment.
The efficacy of Contoura™ has been shown in many positive clinical trial outcomes. US-based clinical trials found that Contoura™ helped 90 per cent of patients see as well or in some cases even better without glasses than with glasses. Further clinical studies found that 92.6 per cent of eyes that received topography-guided LASIK treatment achieved 20/20 vision or better 12 months after surgery.
