Meet Dr Kerrie Meades

Dr Meades graduated with Honours from Sydney University in 1977 and spent four years at hospitals in New South Wales, including as Senior Resident in Ophthalmology at Repat General Hospital Concord

Between 1985-87 Dr Meades undertook Ophthalmological training at Sydney Eye Hospital with secondments to Westmead, Lidcombe, Royal Prince Alfred and St Vincent’s Hospitals

In 1997 Dr Meades underwent extensive training with Dr Peter Stewart in LASIK Refractive Surgery

She is a member of RANZCO, ASO, ASCRS, AAO, founding member of AUSCRS, on the advisory board of ALCON and co-chairperson of women in ophthalmology. She was an associate then VMO at Sydney Eye Hospital, Concord Hospital and Mt Druitt hospital as well as private hospitals and day surgerys including SAN, St Vincents Private, Dalcross and Epping day surgery.

Published work

Dr Meades has published many papers in cataract, refractive surgery and general ophthalmology and has presented at many events both in Australia and overseas. There are very few Eye Doctors in Sydney with the same reputation and experience as Dr Kerrie Meades. She has published widely on LM & EM Histopathology of an Iris Microhaemangioma, Atypical Microbacterial Keratitis, Larva Tick Bite of the Conjunctivitis, and True Exfoliation of the Lens Capsule.

Charity work

Dr Meades has been actively involved over several years in charitable cataract work as an eye doctor in China and Tibet and refractive work in Vietnam. She is now supporting much needed medical care in the Pacific and Madagascar in association with the SAN.

A pioneer in laser eye surgery

Dr Meades is one of the pioneers of laser cataract surgery, the first ophthalmologist to perform Intracor in Australasia, and also involved with the introduction of Supracor and Kamra.

After many years in public and small private practices, she established personalEYES, a company dedicated to excellence in ophthalmology. This involves medical retina, surgical retina, glaucoma and cataract work at the forefront of the technology centred in the western suburbs of Sydney.

Her passion is in refractive surgery including surface treatments, LASIK, phakic IOLs, customised cataract surgery, intracorneal rings, cross-linking and presbyopia with special interests are in cataract and refractive surgery, medical retina including fluorescein angiography and laser.

Dr Kerrie Meades is a LASIK pioneer and Founding Director of personalEYES. She was the first female ophthalmologist to perform laser vision correction in Australia and her expertise in refractive surgery is internationally recognised.

She has been doing refractive surgery since 1995 and trained many fellows in refractive procedures, cataract surgery, and general ophthalmology. She sees the future for personalEYES as providing advanced clinical care with excellent patient service.
