Macular degeneration (MD) refers to a group of degenerative diseases of the retina that cause progressive, painless loss of central vision, affecting the ability to see fine detail, drive, read and recognise faces.
Cataracts affect around half of Australians aged between over 65 to 74. A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of the eye that interferes with vision by diffusing light as it passes through the eye.
Low vision aids such as magnifying spectacles and magnifiying aids can assist patients with poor vision.
But now there is a new option!
The new Oculentis high magnification IOL has been designed to magnify images 2.5 times.
The IOL is inserted under local anaesthetic during laser eye surgery as a day surgery procedure.
The result is that images are magnified 2.5 times to improve the vision and lifestyle for patients with MD, cataracts and poor vision.
- Magnification 2.5 times
- Day surgery procedure under local anaesthetic
- Improved quality of life for people with poor vision due to macular degeneration and cataracts
