LASIK
LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is the most widely
accepted method of correcting the refractive errors - shortsightedness and/or astigmatism - enabling people freedom from glasses.
LASIK
works by reshaping the cornea so that its focusing onto the retina
without the use of glasses or contact lenses.
The LASIK procedure
We use a specially designed microkeratome
to create a flap of tissue on the front of the cornea. The flap
is then lifted to allow the access to the cornea. The cornea is
then reshaped by removing layers of tissue to meet the refractive
requirements of the patient.
After the laser treatment is completed the flap is then carefully repositioned over the newly contoured cornea. Almost immediately the flap adheres to the underlying tissue, eliminating the need for any sutures.
This results in a faster healing response and visual stability,
enabling most patients' good functional vision the next day.
