Laser or LASIK surgery is a life changing decision.

When wearing glasses or contact lenses interferes with your day to day life, work, leisure or sporting activities; you will find yourself considering Laser/LASIK vision correction.

Just imagine throwing away your glasses or contact lenses,
for ever...

Over 10 million patients worldwide have experienced the revolution that is laser surgery. Painless, quick, and instant, it provides permanent results. Performed by our highly professional and experienced team of doctors, you’ll see the results, straight away.

LASIK surgery is designed to correct common vision conditions such as myopia (short-sightedness), astigmatism and hyperopia (far-sightedness); there are many options currently available and the choice can often be confusing.

What is the difference between Laser surgery and LASIK surgery?

Laser eye surgery is a broad term that covers many types of laser eye surgery including ASLA Correction/PRK and LASIK.

LASIK is a specific type of laser eye surgery where the surgeon uses a blade called a microkeratome to cut a thin ‘hinged’ flap in the cornea. The flap is then peeled back to enable the laser to reshape the cornea so that it is focusing onto the retina without the need for glasses or contact lenses. The flap is then repositioned; promoting faster healing.

Similar to standard LASIK, bladeless eye surgery or ‘all laser’ LASIK also works by reshaping the cornea using a laser. The key difference however is the flap is also made using a laser which provides better accuracy and improved healing.

With the introduction of femtosecond laser technology, surgeons are now also able to create a customised flap of the optimum thickness, size, orientation and location.

New wavefront technology (personalEYES Custom LASIK) means that as well as treating your refractive error we can also adjust for subtle imperfections and scattered light errors that are unique only to your eyes; which can result in a better quality of vision.

Am I suitable for LASIK?

Each pair of eyes is unique and LASIK isn't suitable for everyone. Several factors are used to assess your suitability for treatment, these include:

  • your age (usually over 20 to 40/45)
  • your lifestyle needs, e.g. work, sport or hobbies
  • stable vision for up to 24 months
  • vision correction and astigmatism inside acceptable ranges
  • healthy eyes (free of any eye disease)
  • good general health (it is also preferable that you are not pregnant)

Ultimately your eyes will need to be examined thoroughly to determine your suitability and to enable an accurate assessment of the correct procedure for your eyes.

What if I’m not suitable for LASIK

If you are not suitable for LASIK, there are many other excellent options available which our doctors will discuss with you at your assessment, e.g.

  • ICL Implantable Lens
  • IOL Intraocular Lens

From 45-50 onwards our eyes naturally age and we find the need for reading glasses increases—this is called presbyopia. If this is the situation we will consider alternative options to ensure the best possible vision is maintained for both reading and distance.

Your eyesight is too important to risk.
